Tomorrow is the deadline for orders for long sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies. Tees are $20 for 1 and $18 each for 2 or more. Sweatshirts are $25 for 1 and $22 each for 2 or more. Hoodies are $30 for 1 and $27 each for 2 or more. I’ve attached the order form and what the shirts look like. Please send all orders to the front office. We will order according to the orders submitted and can’t guarantee any extras after shirts are dispersed so if you want one, make sure you get one now!
Hi Thomas Families!
Here’s some quick info on upcoming events.
First, our next open PTO meeting will be held on Monday, January 8th at 6:30. Child care will be provided by the high school National Honors Society. We will discuss the sound system purchase and our upcoming events. Please attend if you can!
Second, our next Thomas Tuesday is sneaking up on us already and it’s a morning one! Tuesday, January 9th from 5:30 am - 12:00 pm, head on over to The Beanery! Not a coffee drinking? That’s ok! They have tea, smoothies, and even donuts and pastries to choose from. Make sure to mention you are there to support Thomas and a portion of the sales come back to the school. AND not only are you supporting the school, but you are also supporting a fellow Thomas parent. Gotta love it when we can support each other! I’ve attached a flyer that you can download or print or you can also add it to your calendar. Do whatever you have to do to remember because the ground is way too frozen for signs.
And very quickly, our second family night will be held at the end of the month on January 26th. Mark your calendars now for our Family Dance Party so you don’t miss out on the fun. We will also be taking orders for long sleeve shirts and hoodies. Additional information will be distributed soon so keep an eye out for emails, check back to our website or follow our social media.
Don’t forget to keep collecting Box Tops!
Have a great weekend!
Hello Thomas Families!
Just wanted to send you all a quick note that we have our next open PTO meeting on Monday, November 13th at 6:30. Child care will be provided. We will discuss sound equipment and upcoming events. Hope you can join us!
Also, and this is HUGE! Our next Thomas Tuesday is at Hy-Vee on Tuesday, November 14th. This is open to ANYONE who has a coupon. Co-workers, friends, neighbors and family are all people who you can give coupons to. The school will earn 10% back of all sales using the coupon. Now would be an excellent time to stock up on all your Thanksgiving groceries. This can really help out our school and you wouldn’t have to do anything you wouldn’t already be doing 0 buying groceries. The best part is it’s open ALL DAY LONG so you don’t have to make sure to swing over in a certain window. Please note, it excludes gas station and online orders.
Lastly, thank you all for your participation in our annual Dragon Dash. Together, we helped earn $24,834.92 for our school. A huge congratulations to the Digilio family for coming in as the grand prize winners and earning over $500 in donations! Lastly, our big classroom winner is Mrs. Duin’s class. So thankful to be a part of such an incredible community!
See you Monday and make sure you head to Hy-Vee on Tuesday!
Hello Thomas Families!
We are a week into our two week fundraising event, the Dragon Dash! We are blown away by the amount of support we’ve already seen come in. Our PayPal has already processed over $400 in donations! This is huge, but we still have quite the ways to go.
If you weren’t able to attend our Kick-off Event last week, here’s an overview of what was discussed. The PTO budget is $40,000. Because we were able to get so many last minute discounts on the playground equipment last year, we actually have $10,000 remaining that we are able to apply to this year. This makes our goal for this year $30,000 or $60 per student. This is used to pay for our family nights (which there are a total of 3), teacher and staff gifts for holidays and appreciation weeks, a scholarship for a graduating senior, recycling for the school, refilling the pebble pit, teacher meals during conferences and much more. This really is just portion of what the PTO covers. Luckily, we are able to do a lot because of the great support from our Thomas families.
Our big ticket purchase for the school this year will be a new sound system for the school. We are very lucky that our school is relatively new and our students have all the technology available to them. BUT, our school’s sound system still has a tape deck! Mr. Basye has worked on getting us quotes to upgrade the sound system and make it better for Mrs. Acker to run our music programs. He is also hoping we can earn enough funds to add two large tv’s to the commons area to put school news on and to have school movie days. This was a much more affordable option than a projection system that would only be used a very small handful of times a year.
The fundraising weeks end with our Dragon Dash obstacle course on Friday, October 13th. Each grade will have a designated time to run the course and will finish up with waters provided by Lowe’s and a re-energizing snack for working so hard. Here are the course times:
8:45-9:30 AM: 1st Grade
9:45-10:30 AM: 5th Grade
10:45-11:30 AM: 2nd Grade
11:40 AM-12:25 PM: KG
12:30-1:15 PM: 3rd Grade
1:25-2:10 PM: 4th GradeOutdoor Schedule
8:45-9:35 AM: 1st Grade
9:45-10:35 AM: 5th Grade
10:45-11:35 AM: 2nd Grade
11:40-12:30 PM: KG
12:45-1:35 PM: 3rd Grade
1:45-2:35 PM: 4th Grade
Let’s get down to the fun part, the prizes! At Thomas, our students are all on the same team. If, as a team, they reach the fundraising goals, they will ALL earn the prizes, together! Here’s the breakdown:
$8,000: Crazy Hair Day
$16,000: Board Game Day
$24,000: Ice Cream Social
$30,000 : DUNK TANK!!
The class who earns the most amount of donations will also each win a $5 gift card to Sonic for a sweet reward or anything else you’d like to have.
Now, here’s where we are changing it up from previous years. These fundraisers are a lot of work and the people doing the work is us, the parents! So why can’t we be rewarded for our hard work, right? Well, this year, we will be! Our highest earning student will win a grand prize basket filled with prizes that parents actually get to enjoy and even want. Everyday, the pot grows too. So far, what we have confirmed is:
-2 adult and 2 child activity passes to GPS activities
-$100 gift certificate to Firebirds
- 4 tickets to Marcus Theaters
- 4 Build & Grow kits and hammers donated by Lowe’s
- 1 night’s stay at Hilton donated by Hilton
These are just the confirmed prizes. We still have THREE additional prizes that we are finalizing the details on. If your business would also like to add a prize, please reach out to us and we will make the announcements. Also, if you have spoken to us about donating already, please reach out so we can confirm the details of your donation. We have been blown away by the generosity of our Thomas families as we couldn’t provide such an awesome grand prize without these donations from their businesses.
Let’s finish our last week of fundraising strong! Here’s the link for online payment processing: https://www.paypal.me/ThomasElementaryPTO Talk to you family, share it on social media, ask co-workers. If we all work hard, we can have a great year of fun and rewards for our students, our staff and our incredible Thomas community!
In the words of the late Billy Mays, but wait, there’s more! We actually have a lot going on this month. On top of the fundraiser, we have Thomas Tuesday coming up Tuesday, October 10th at the Gretna McDonald’s. Please see the attached flyer. I know I’ll be looking forward to a night I don’t have to cook!
We also have classroom Halloween parties at the end of the month. Head room parents should be getting the planning emails sent out soon to begin planning. We do have a few rooms without a head room parent. We completely understand that it’s a lot of work having to plan out a party, especially if you don’t know where to begin. The good news is, our volunteer coordinators are working on tentative party plans that they will send out to make it easier on the room parents. All you have to do then is split up the work! Be on the look out for those emails next week.
We will be meeting Thursday after school to set up the Dragon Dash course. If you volunteered to help, meet us on the field. Also, if you volunteered to assist the day of the course, send us a message letting us know the times you’ll be able to help so we have a schedule.
We know this is a lot for this month. But we also know that us parents are why we are able to provide so much for our students and our staff - because they are deserving of so much!
Have a great weekend and feel free to contact us with questions, concerns or ideas :)
Hello Thomas Families!
We are so excited for our first family night event of the year tonight!! Tonight is both an away game for the high school and for the Huskers so if you aren’t making the drive anywhere, come on down and play some corn hole and maybe a little horse shoes too. We are also kicking off our annual Dragon Dash tonight and will be discussing our goals, our prizes (they get better by the day!) and our big purchase for the school for the year. The PTO will be providing a hotdog dinner so you don’t even have to worry about feeding your crew. If you have signed up to volunteer for the event, please meet us at the school at 5:00 to help set up.
Another important note to make: I am sorry to everyone who has had problems with their t-shirt order. Please be patient as we work them out. Because of some sizing issues, we will be placing an additional order with Chris at the Modest Mammoth. Since this is going to have to be a quick order to get everyone their right sized shirts, we are only going to be able to take orders through tonight at the event. I’ve attached the order form for those interested.
Our new website is available to check out: http://thomaselementarypto.weebly.com Definitely check there as we will update it with information as well.
Thank you all so much and I hope to see many of you tonight!
Hi Thomas Families!
Good news! T-shirts have arrived and they’ve been sorted and dispersed to teachers. Expect your student to come home with them after today. A quick note about shirts, since we noticed the sizes ran a little small, there were times we swapped an ordered size for a different one that we felt would probably be more suitable. Our goal was to prevent any issues with fitting before they happened. If you do have issues with sizing, please contact the PTO at ThomasElemPTO@gmail.com and we will work to get you the correct size.
We’ve been getting asked if there are extras. There might be but first we want to make sure those who ordered have the sizes they want before opening up the extras for sale. We will also be doing a winter order for long sleeve shirts as well as hoodies. Stay tuned for these happenings!
In other exciting news, this Friday, September 29th, your PTO will be hosting our first family night of the year and kick off our annual fundraiser, the Dragon Dash!! Please join us as we tailgate for the Huskers beginning at 5:30. PTO will be providing a hotdog meal as well as the perfect tailgating games for everyone to come and enjoy the night. We'll also be discussing our fundraising goals, how we plan to use the funds and what prizes will be awarded. I promise, you'll want to hear about the prizes!
Our website will be available very soon! It’s in the hands of one final person to get the finishing touches added. As soon as they are done, we will get it linked to the school site. In the meantime, you can always keep touch with us at ThomasElemPTO@gmail.com or on our Facebook page.
We can’t wait to see you all Friday at our Dragon Dash Kickoff event!
Hello Thomas Families!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their t-shirt orders to us. We've already received questions about having extras and we will keep everyone updated on what we have left.
Since appointments last spring, our PTO board has unfortunately seen two positions open up. First, we need a treasurer, who is responsible for maintaining the budget and tracking expenses. The second would be a co-fundraising coordinator who would be responsible for setting up Thomas Tuesday nights. We are planned out for the remainder of 2017 so it shouldn’t be too terrible to pick this one up. Please email us at ThomasElemPTO@gmail.com if you are interested.
I previously mentioned having sign-up sheets at our Open House for different projects we will need help with. We ended up not having them out because there was so much stuff happening that night and we didn't want to make it more hectic. Here's a quick list of areas we are needing help. Then head on over to our SIGN UP GENIUS and sign up to volunteer. Planning meetings for the events will be arranged at later dates.
- Dragon Dash kick-off: planning, set up and help with activities (listed as Fall Bash on the sign up genius)
- Dragon Dash: setting up and helping the day of
- Thomas Tuesday: help with signs
- Box Tops: collection and prize planning (there is already a coordinator but a lot for one person)
- Family Dance Party: planning and set up
- Year End Bash: planning, set up and help with activities
Come to our first meeting on Monday, September 11th at 6:30 and we will be discussing all of these committees, review our annual budget and our plans for the year. Mark your calendars so you don't miss out! While your calendar is out, mark it for Thomas Tuesday on September 12th. This month will be at Jimmy John’s!
Attached you will find our annual calendar. You will see we added district days as well as PTO dates so you only need to keep one calendar. Our goal is to get these printed on magnets for every Thomas family. Feel free to discuss this with us at our first meeting as well.
I look forward to seeing you all at our meeting on Monday. Our website is currently under construction so keep an eye out for emails like this, things sent home with your students as well as updates on our FACEBOOK page. You can always email us at ThomasElemPTO@gmail.com with any questions, comments or concerns.
Have a great day!
